Winter has arrived.....

Winter is finally here!! It has been snowing on and off all day here and we received about 4" so far with a chance for about 3 more inches. It is very windy and supposed to get below 0 with the wind chill....brrrrrr!! I love seeing the snow fall...reminds me of a snow globe but hate having to leave the house and drive in it!! I am so happy I have tomorrow off of work and can work on a few creations :)

Two days ago, Hubby and I made a kitty shelter outside under our pool deck for the strays outside. We sectioned off an area and put up some black landscape cloth and then went around and hung plastic to make a tent like house for them. We then put up some plywood to help block the wind even more. It is blocked from the wind really good! We have a medium size dog house, a house made from a plastic tote and a tote that is laid on its side all filled with a ton of straw. The whole area has about 2 feet of straw in it along with water and food. We feed 4 stays...Scruffy, he is white and grey (I think he is the oldest), Whitey....he is all white with golden eyes. He is starting to come around and actually let me pet him for just a second. The other day when I fed him he walked about a foot away from me and started rolling around on the ground and then got up and walked away...I think he was saying "thank you for the food!" Then we have two new comers....Half and Half....he is dark gray and white and Little One...he is about one to two years old and is the youngest. He is also grey and white. Whitey and Half and Half don't seem to be as afraid of people like the other two and I just hope they were not someones cat and they let them out to fend for themselves. That just breaks my heart!! I worry about them all as if they were my kids and am trying to help them survive the best I can, especially in this colder weather!! I have two indoor cats and cannot bring in anymore. My female is very territorial and it took 4 months for her and my male to get along! They are both rescues and I wish I could rescue them all and do more for them!!

This week is my first week back to work in over a year!! I am only working part time so far....kind of a nice way to ease pack into the work world!! This primitive black scarecrow measures 16 1/4" tall and was made with a Blue Moon Beginnings pattern. He has vintage button eyes, burlap nose & mouth and is completely rag stuffed and can stand on his own! He has a pesty crow on his prim hat and two grungy ears of corn. You will just love him!!!

A Little Bit of This and That

I cannot believe it has been over a month since I have posted! Shame on me!! I have been pretty busy doing some Spring cleaning and tons of yard work. The only thing left to do is to wash all of the windows in the house. The yard looks pretty good and is almost finished. We have mulched around all of the perennial beds and all of the flowers seem to be doing great so far. We had had some goofy weather here...from 90's to mid 40's and a lot of rain. This weather sure has been going up and down!! I am glad the 90's have not stuck around just yet, we need to open the pool for that! LOL! I still need to plant some annuals and rake a small area of pine needles and then the yard will be complete.

We planted our garden...some cukes, zuchini, tomatoes, bell peppers, cabbage, sugar snap peas, sweet onions, strawberries, green beans, pumpkin and a few herbs. Cannot wait for some juicy garden tomatoes!!

The next couple pf days are supposed to be nice so hubby decided that we are packing up and taking a little camping trip!! We are leaving in the morning for some much needed R & R!! I cannot wait. Hubby has been working so much lately....he needs a break!

I of course have also been taking some more pictures with my camera of my feathered friends here. We've had a few Rose Breasted Grosbeaks that visited for about a week. I love when they visit, they are beautiful!

Once back from our little trip I have a couple hand mades in the works that I need to finish and will be listing along with some Spring cleaning sale items. I hope you all have a great weekend!

My hubby bought me a new camera for Christmas and the past couple weeks I have been self teaching myself how to use it, other than just "point and click" on auto. Photography has always been one of my many passions and I cannot wait to learn more and take some great photographs. I do have a lot to learn but have enjoyed the photographs I have taken. BLIZZARD 2011!!

What a snow storm!!! We had so much blowing snow and even what they call thundersnow, with lightning and thunder! Well it is hard to exactly how much snow we actually received! The wind sure was brutal yesterday and this morning, leading to 4-6' snow drifts! Hubby is just now digging us out, but don't think we will be driving anywhere soon! Just seen a few plow trucks go by and buried our driveway again! A big thanks to our neighbor for helping Hubby dig us back out! The snow had ended but tomorrow we are in for minus 20-40 below zero wind chills!! Eeeeek....I will be staying inside for sure! Well it is a good day for sewing up some bunnies.....have to Think Spring!!

Spring is in the Air!!

at least that is the mind set I have been in. I wish it was in the air! It has been so gloomy and we just received two inches of snow today!! The past couple weeks have been so busy!! First congrats to the Packers for winning the NFC championship and going to the Super Bowl!!! I cannot wait to watch that game. Even though I am from IL...I am a Green Bay Packers fan!!

Hubby had some free time and decided to paint our living room, trim and all!! It was a project but I am absolutely in love with it!! As soon as I make some valances for my windows, I will share some pics of it =)

Its Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas!!

We had our first snowfall of the year today!! It is still snowing and we are supposed to get a couple more inches here. I just love the first snowfall, it is so beautiful!! I love the way the snow clings to the trees and bushes and absolutely love the animal tracks you see in the snow. I just cannot believe that it is November!! Where has the the time gone??? I am absolutely not ready for any of the Holidays but did manage to create a few items for the Holiday Season. I think with having the warmer weather this year...which I love....caught me off guard!! It will be in the 60's all week!! I am pretty sure this will be the last warm week we will have for the year.

This primitive Old Fashioned Black Santa was made from a Pineberry Lane pattern and measures 15" long. He is made from muslin and has french knot eyes, a stitched nose and wool beard and mustache. His hat and coat is made from a brown wool.

Sunflower Corn Husk Wreath Tutorial

It has been such a busy October and I have not had a chance to create and I am really missing it dearly!! My mother in law was admitted into the hospital on Oct 1st and was diagnosed with Diverticulitis. Diverticulitis occurs when small pouches (diverticula) commonly found in your large intestine become infected or inflamed. She was in the hospital for 15 days with a severe infection. She does not need surgery at this time but if her symptoms occur again she will have to have the surgery. She is staying with hubby and I until she gets back on her feet, so for now she is my patient!

This past week, I felt like the patient and had a nasty sore throat, fever, chills, and sinus infection. I feel much better than I did three days ago, but not 100% yet, hopefully in a few more days. It was not too fun being the patient trying to take care of the other patient, lol, but we making it work!!

I was able to have a little free time and was searching the internet and came across this awesome sunflower corn husk wreath with pine cones and wanted to share. This is just beautiful! This wreath would look gorgeous welcoming your Thanksgiving guests!

The weather has been absolutely beautiful the past few days. Pretty sure this will be the last warm weekend for the year, kind of sad about that!!! The trees are starting to turn around here and with the bright sun shining on them...they look gorgeous! Can't wait until they are in full color!! It was such a beautiful day to visit one of my favorite places in the country....Harvest Time Farm. They have such beautiful mums, pumpkins of all shapes and sizes, gourds, Indian corn, corn stalks and bails of straw. They also have a few roosters and chickens that were a hoot to watch!

This primitive pumpkin folk kreamer measures 12 1/2" tall (to the pumpkins stem) X 7 1/2" wide (the antique kreamer tin). The antique Kreamer tin is filled with one of my pumpkin folk dolls, some dried flowers and dried corn stalk leaves. Around the rim is a cheese cloth tie and quince slice.

A Trip to a State Park

I just love taking a day trip and getting out outdoors in touch with nature!! We are planning on taking a little camping trip soon and went to Kankakee State Park to check out the campground and the area. It is such a beautiful area and I just wanted to share some pics I took.

Our First Pumpkin

is here, lol! Well, when we planted our garden this year we did not plant any pumpkins. We planted some cucumbers and zucchini by our back fence and thought to ourselves....what was this plant that was growing next to the fence and asked each other if the other had planted it. We both said no...we did not plant anything next to the fence and let it grow to see what it was and low and behold it turned out to be a pumpkin!!! Once we realized it was a pumpkin, my husband said he threw last years Fall pumpkins into the garden and must have tilled the seed this spring. We have a small sized garden and never planted pumpkins before so I was excited!! Yes, I get excited easy, lol! The plant has produced two small sized pumpkins...the one in the picture is turning orange and the other is just starting to turn. I cannot wait until I can place then on my front porch. I think next year we will include them in our garden!

It has been so hot here lately with temps in the 90's. Next week it is supposed to cool down a bit with less humidity. I am excited about Fall being around the corner but also enjoy the Summer weather and our swimming pool!!

With thinking about Fall, I have created my Pumpkin Harvest Filled Piggin! I filled this distressed reproduction piggin and filled it with some raffia on the bottom and added some dried corn cobs and husks and a round head primitive Pumpkin stump doll. This Harvest piggin can hang on a wall or be placed anywhere in your prim home for a great Fall display! All items are placed in the piggin and not glued down.

Our garden suffered from a couple heavy rains we had here this year and from a new resident that lives in my flower garden....Mr. Bun Bun!! I love rabbits and we usually have a few babies in the Spring that go their own way after a while, but this one must love it here and decided to stay, lol. We had to replant our green beans twice (we finally just picked two batches!) and gave up after having to replanting our sugar snap peas. He ate those babies to the ground!

I am very sorry I have not been posting or creating the past few months. It has been a very difficult time for me and my family. My oldest sister and uncle lost their fight with cancer within a month of each other and just last week I had to put my oldest fur baby to sleep. I have been going through a lot lately but will be creating again and will be listing a couple items on my blog later this evening. Creating always seems to help me feel better and to take my mind off of things!

I sure have been bitten by some kind of bug this past week! I think in a day or two it should be leaving me....hopefully so I can feel 100% again!!

I finally finished a hand made to share with all of you. With working my job and then doing work for hubby...time sure is limited for creating. As I make some creations, I will be offering them to you on my blog. I made this sweet bunny doll from a catnap primitives pattern. She is made from grungy musling and measures 22" long. She has vintage button eyes, old cotton batting nose and flax whiskers. Her dress is made from muslin and a blue check skirt. Her skirt is adorned with aged cheese cloth and two dried okra. She is so primitive and simple looking and can be left out all year long!

is finally done!!!!! I thought I would have had him finished sooner but I have been busy as usual. I am so pleased with the way he turned out. He is made out of fake fur and is grungy to prim perfection:) He has some weight to him and is not jointed......that is whole other project. He has vintage shoe buttons for eyes, a homespun ruffled collar with two large rusty bells and a make do blue ticking patch on his belly. So...what do ya think?

I have also been looking for some new graphics for my blog and website and have entered into the world of digital scrapbooking. I am just amazed at all of the free scrapbooking supplies out there. I also just got Photoshop CS4 on my computer and am learning how to use the program. So I might just come up with some new graphics soon.

Getting Organized

was not what I planned to do today but am so glad it is done! Hubby and I went shopping at the local Walmart today and as I was looking around the kitchen items I found this cool spice rack and some pantry jars. The jars come in three different sizes and have a brushed aluminum looking lid. I just may paint the lids black and add some vintage looking labels to them.

Once we got home we organized the whole pantry (it is the size of a large closet), checking dates on everything, washing down the shelves and getting rid of things that we do not use. I washed and filled the new pantry jars with flour, sugar and coffee and organizing all of the spices. Once the pantry was done, there was no stopping us, lol we started on all of the kitchen cabinets and drawers, organizing everything!! I am a little pooped now and just getting ready to relax. I just love when everything is clean and organized and accomplishing something that needed to be done!

Tomorrow I hope work on my new project...not sure I will have it done but should be really close! Have a great Sunday!!

I cannot believe another year has gone by! So far, the beginning of 2010 looks very promising! I awoke next to my loving husband and to a bright sunny day!!!! The temperature is freezing outside but at least it is sunny out and nice and cozy inside! We made breakfast and started packing away the Christmas decorations and will just relax the rest of the day.

I am working on a new project and hope to have it finished by the end of the weekend so I can share it with you. I am very excited about it and cannot wait to finish.

I wish all of my friends, new and old .....a Healthy, Prosperous and Happy 2010!!! I also wanted to say Thank You to all of my dear customers for a wonderful 2009!!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!

Wow, I cannot believe Christmas is already here. Last night we had a great time at my sisters house with the whole family (except for my other sister and her family, who is soaking up the rays in Florida) and had a great Christmas Eve dinner and then came home to open presents and watched Christmas Vacation!

Today, I am cooking a roast and we are just relaxing and will visit my husbands family later. I hope you all have a safe and very Happy Holiday!

New Free Pattern & A Couple of Makeovers & A Santa Doll

I finally had some time the past couple of weeks to get some things done that I have been wanting to get done. First, I have added a new free pattern on the right side bar. It is for my primitive cupid doll ornie......hope you all enjoy!!

Next, on to the makeovers. This first makeover was a wooden breadbox I picked up at GW and made it into a prim wooden bin. Don't you just love the cow stenciled on it?

I took the front door off of it and added a wooden divider and a wooden front piece onto it and then started to prim it up with a rasp, beating it up with some nails, nuts and bolts and then did some prim painting. I first painted it with a dark brown and then a mustard. I took my sander and sanded it all over to make it look worn and then gave it a coat of stain.

I filled it with some greenery, snowballs and some wonderful gingerbread men that I made. The gingerbread men were made from a Crows in the Attic Primitives pattern. I absolutely love the way it turned out and cannot wait to decorate it with the change of seasons.

My next makeover is another GW item. This self was just screaming to be primmed up!

I first painted it black and then a cranberry. I then sanded it all over and here is the finished makeover.

Here is a pic of it all decorated up for the Holidays. I carved the word Primitive on the candle, primmed it up and added a grungy battery tea light. The stocking sampler was made with some wool I had. I cut out a stocking stitched the word Joy on it and then stitched it to an aged piece of osnaburg. The stocking is filled with sweet annie and a cinnamon stick. The frame was plastic and I painted it a mustard and sanded it a bit.

This next item is just a little something I did with an old window I had from our log cabin at our resort. It was already painted white so I added the two stocking, some greenery and a grapevine twiggy wreath to it.

And these last couple of pictures are of a Santa I made for myself. I have been taking a break from selling for a little while to create some items for my own home.

Sorry this is such a long post....I need to update more often. I will be sharing more makeovers, patterns and pictures of things I make and maybe even throw in an item or two for sale in the weeks to come!

My Old Fashioned Christmas Swap Goodies

have arrived. I joined in on Chars swap and had so much fun creating for my partnre.....Colleen from And Baby Makes Five.. I love making new friends and crafting for them in these swaps. Colleen sent me these wonderful Old Fashioned Christmas hand mades and I can honestly say that I cannot just pick one favorite out of all that she sent. I received a beautiful Santa stitchery, a wooden word"Joy", chocolate chip melts, hand made & painted dough bowl fillers, homespun wrapped strand of lights, a wooden "Deck the Halls" sign and wooden painted snowman sign, the cutest Santa napkins and a package of mulling spices!

A huge thank you Colleen!!! You sure brightened my Holiday and sure know how to spread some Christmas cheer and spoil your swap partner! Thank you!!!!

I hope you all have a safe and Happy Halloween! I will be going by my sisters house later this evening and then picking up my nephew to spend the night.

I know I have not been on here lately and just have been working many hours at my day job and then doing computer work for my husband company. I have not had time to create lately being so busy. I am not giving up creating, just taking a much needed break for a little while until things slow down. I will be sharing more creations when I have the time, doing some make overs and other things.

Primitive Early Harvest Pumpkin Doll Stocking

Whoooo Hoooooo, just got done watching some football and the Bears won!!!!! Sundays are our football playing, (we toss around the football) game watching, snack a ton day!! If anyone has some great football snack recipes to share I sure would love to hear what you make and maybe share a few recipes!

The leaves are starting to fall and the cooler weather is upon us! Great Harvest weather....perfect to share my new creation with you...... her name is Elizabet! She is such a sweetie and is listed on Ebay for a 7 day auction. I have been doing 3 day auctions, but need a little more time this week to get some more creations and a pattern or two done.

The Best Baby Back Ribs Recipe

I just had to share this recipe for the best ever baby back ribs. I have made these quite a few times and every time, they turn out great! This recipe is for two slabs of ribs. If you love ribs, you have to try this!!

Preheat oven to 300 degrees. First you want to remove the back membrane of your ribs....this is a must! Taking the membrane off of them will make them cook better and be more tender. Then I combine the following ingredients for a dry rub.

Rib Rub Recipe:

1/4 cup brown sugar,
1 1/2 Tbsp. paprika
1 Tbsp. kosher salt
1 1/2 Tbsp. black pepper
1 tsp. garlic powder
1 tsp. onion powder
1/4-1/2 tsp. cayenne red pepper.

I cut my slabs in half so they fit into the foil lined pan and then rub this dry rub all over your ribs, front and back. Line a 9x13" pan with foil (for easy clean up) and place your half slabs in the pan. Try and place the ribs leaning on their sides in the pan, it is ok to have them touching each other. Then I add water to cover the bottom of the pan about 1/2", just so they do not dry out. You could also pour some BBQ sauce over them instead of the water.Cover the pan tightly with foil and place in in the oven for 2 hours.

Once they are done take them out of the oven and let them cool. Finally, grilled them on medium heat, brushing with your favorite BBQ sauce for about 5-10 min. a side, till they are nicely caramelized. YUM! They were "falling off the bone" tender, without actually falling off the bone. Try these! You won't be sorry!

Welcome Fall

I am a little sad to see Summer leave.....all of the BBQ's, swimming, camping, fishing, boating, gardening and fresh vegetables, long sunny days but do love the Fall also. Now if we can just skip the winter, I would be a happy camper!!!

A Touch of Harvest

I absolutely love this time of year!! The weather could not be more perfect and of course it is football season! This weekend seemed liked it flew by and of course I did not get done as much as I would like to. I did manage to list one thing on Ebay this evening and will be listing another tomorrow evening. Here is a peek at my listing. It is a vintage apron filled with dried tansy and corn cobs in their husks. I love this Harvest peg rack hanger!

New Santa Head Make Do Pattern

I hope you all had a great weekend! The weather here was absolutely beautiful. I have been talking about making a new pattern and have made one for my primitive Santa head make do. He is now listed on Pattern Mart and is available as an instant download.

The model for the pattern is also available on Ebay for a 3 day auction. I was enjoying the weather and was only able to list one item but will be working on more tomorrow evening. Right now I have to go and watch some football....love it!!! Bears against the Packers!

My Harvest Swap Arrived Today!!!

First of all I cannot believe I have not posted in over a week and I hope you all have a great Labor day weekend! We had such a blast!!! I guess that is why I have been MIA, lol!

Now for my wonderful package that arrived. My swap partner was Diana of
Down Hidden Farm Lane She sent me some awesome Fall/Harvest items. I received some carmel and chocolate squares and hot chocolate mix....can you tell I am in heaven???? That alone is the best! I also received a prim journal, a scarecrow ornie, a Paula Dean candle, four pumpkins, some Fall napkins and a Fall candle mat and decorative pick. I absolutely LOVE it all. Thank you so much Diana!!!

just listed on Ebay for 3 day auctions. I will also be working on a new pattern or two and should have them ready by next weekend. We had a busy weekend. We went to a Count Fair on Saturday with our niece, her fiance and our nephew....it was great time. We had some corn dogs, ice cream, went on some rides and of course spent time with all of the farm animals! You can't beat the country!! Wish I had my camera...but I forgot it:( Then after that we visited my sister and her husband until midnight.
